Karina Jackson

NAME: Karina Jackson (she/her)

PRACTICE / TITLE: Occupational therapist

SPECIALTY / SERVICES:

I provide occupational therapy services in pelvic health, maternal health, and hand therapy.

In pelvic health, I support clients experiencing bladder, bowel, and sexual dysfunction, including incontinence, constipation, pelvic pain, and pain with intimacy. I use education, behavioral strategies, and individualized exercise programs to help clients regulate pelvic floor function, improve daily comfort, and restore participation in meaningful activities.

In maternal health, I guide women through postpartum recovery by addressing abdominal wall concerns (such as diastasis recti), scar management, safe return to activity, and strategies for lifting, feeding, and caring for their baby without pain. I also integrate mental health and self-care strategies to support overall well-being during this transition.

In hand therapy, I provide rehabilitation for conditions such as tendonitis, fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome, and postpartum overuse injuries. Services include custom splinting, edema management, progressive strengthening, activity modification, and return-to-function programs tailored to daily and occupational needs.

WEBSITE / ABOUT: www.otwithkarina.com

The lens from which I practice has been shaped by my lived experience as a Black woman who has faced oppression, judgment, and discrimination in public health spaces as both a professional and a patient. I recognize that these experiences are not isolated “flukes,” but the result of systemic inequities perpetuated by white supremacy. I do not view my work as apolitical, nor do I believe it is possible to remove bias entirely from human interaction. Instead, I commit to observing and acknowledging bias, reflecting on its impact, and addressing the space it occupies in therapeutic relationships. In my practice, this means that conversations about racism in healthcare are not avoided, but welcomed if the patient chooses. This is especially critical in pelvic and maternal health, where systemic racism exists and gaslighting of patients is unfortunately common. I make it clear that naming and validating these experiences is part of care because true healing cannot take place if the harm of racism is ignored. My approach is therefore open, transparent, and rooted in acknowledging the whole experience of the person in front of me.
